Prospecting For Gold In Alaska

where would be a good area to go prospecting for gold in Canada?
Doing it for fun, but i wanna go really far north. I know the yukon area next to alaska has yield a lot of gold but hoping maybe gold has been discovered closer to the east coast of canada. (im from boston)
The White River area (where it meets the Yukon) is the scene of a huge gold rush right now. I was down there last week, and there is activity all over the place, although they are winding down for winter now.
There are still something like 200 placer mines in the Klondike area, bringing in about $40 million a year, so there is still gold in the Yukon, although it is getting harder, and more expensive to mine.
For the East, there will be gold in northern Ontario, but this will be hard rock gold, so finding it takes a fair bit of equipment and money. Simple panning is unlikely to produce much. You can still pan in many areas of British Columbia, and people also pan recreationally in the Western USA.
The easy gold is pretty much all gone. Getting to where larger amounts of gold are is really expensive! But, for panning for fun, there are still lots of places. Dawson City has the “free claim” – a claim on the Bonanza creek where the Eldorado meets it. It is open to the public, and you can pan there for up to 3 days per year, and keep whatever you find. There are also some mines that allow tourists to pan – Gold Bottom (in the Hunker Creek valley – also near Dawson) does this. The owner told me a German couple came last year to pan enough gold to make their own wedding rings – which they did.
