Lending A Helping Hand To Homework Troubles.
Sometimes helping your children with their homework can bring back so many reminiscent memories from when you were in school. There were so many fond memories of certain teachers and sometimes some not so fond of teachers that were disliked. Events that happened that were both humorous and embarrassing can be enjoyable now that the fears of childhood are no longer with you.
One thing I have to be incredibly proud of is that my children tend to get their homework assignments done on time and usually put quite a bit of effort into them. I think their good grades reflect how hard they work all year long. I would like to think they take after me.
Art class had always been something of an easier class for me. I had a natural aptitude for it and enjoyed it immensely. The inspiration that could be drawn from anywhere, a crumpled soda can, or the shadow of a tree branch on the wall could give you ideas for something else. I always loved seeing what everyone else could come up with, I think that was the best part of art class. Given one idea, many minds could see it in a completely different light.
I began reminiscing after my daughter brought home a sheet of paper with half of a magazine ad where a beautiful teenager was displaying a crystal necklace glued to it. The assignment was to draw the other half of the image as best as you could.
I looked over the assignment my son had brought home. He had to make a collage out of multiple images from magazines. He was getting a little overwhelmed with the assignment so I picked out a few images out of the magazine for him. A gorgeous bedding collection, a toothbrush, A yellow and white gold set of princess cut engagement rings and a damask sofa. He glued things in wherever he wanted them to go.
I looked over at my daughter and could see that she was having some difficulty. I offered a few suggestions that perhaps she try the assignment with something she thought was easier to start with. She agreed and came and chose a picture of a pair of hobo handbags and I helped her cut it in half. We glued the picture to a sheet of paper and she began drawing.
After she was done, she smiled at me and told me that it is much easier to draw purses instead of people. I had to agree with her, but I think it helped her. She tackled her assignment then and ended up with fairly high marks on it. I was certainly very proud of the job she did on it.
