I have a 2003 250 ford 4/4 Diesel 6.0 and having trouble with it.?
under a load it looses power going up a hill pulling my travel trailer and it starts blowing black smoke and really starts popping, anyone out there have this trouble?
Bring it to a Ford dealer and have it checked for codes. Are you getting any of the following codes? P0299, P132B, P0488, P0404, P0401, P0402? The first two codes refer to issues regarding turbo boost (either too much boost, or not enough). The last four are to do with the EGR system. More than likely, the EGR valve is clogged up with carbon, which will either require EGR valve replacement or cleaning,and clean out the intake manifold passages of all the carbon. Have the dealer tech monitor the EGR data. Most likely, it’s cycling wildly under a load, which would describe what you are experiencing. Have the servicing tech remove IAT #2, and clean off carbon, or replace as necessary. If IAT #2 is dirty, it will not react quickly enough to temperature changes as the EGR valve opens and closes, also causing the surging you are experiencing. In the meantime, keep up your maintenance with your oil changes, and replacement of BOTH of your fuel filters. Hope this helps.
